Program Descriptions

BEWDGP Basic Eight Week Pet Grooming: 176 Clock hrs:

This program is designed for entry level students, with no previous experience or training, and who are not interested in intermediate or advanced dog show grooming or the sport of dog show handling. Students will be prepared to work as an apprentice to a professional groomer. Students are welcome to use their own approved equipment, or purchase their own equipment before their first day of class.

CTWPGP Complete 12 Week Pet Grooming: 264 Clock Hrs

This program is a condensed version of the Complete Sixteen Week Program. This program is designed for those students with no prior experience or training, intending to pursue a career as a professional pet groomer on an intermediate level, with future plans of working independently. The student will learn intermediate pet grooming skills. Dog Show Handling is optional. Students will attend lectures and workshops and attend a Dog Show. This program does not include the equipment.

CSWPGP Complete 16 Week Pet Grooming: 352 Clock Hrs

This program is designed for those students with no prior experience or training, intending to pursue a career as a professional pet groomer on an intermediate level, with future plans of opening a grooming salon, mobile unit or working independently. In addition to intermediate dog grooming skills, students will learn the art of dog show handling and some show grooming, attending at least two dog shows and dedicating at least four hours of observation in the grooming area at the show. Students will expand their knowledge of dogs and the pet-grooming industry, attending Veterinarian and AKC guest lectures. Students will learn all intermediate pet grooming skills. Students will learn all the Necessary Skills to work independently. Students will spend a day with an Accountant who will prepare them to open a business if they so desire. Students are welcome to use their own approved equipment, or purchase their own equipment before their first day of class.

AEWDGP Advanced Eight Week Dog Grooming Program: 176 Clock Hrs

This program is designed for those students who have acquired previous training or work experience in the dog grooming trade. The student will begin the program after successful demonstration of skills to the Director. Students will expand their knowledge of their particular breeds of interest, and will learn management of successful grooming salon operations. Students will practice grooming on an advanced level, and the program will incorporate veterinarian and AKC guest lectures, show grooming and dog show handling, with emphasis on scissoring and finishing. In addition, students will attend a minimum of four dog shows, dedicating a minimum of eight hours of observation in the grooming area. This program does not include equipment. Students will furnish their own approved equipment or purchase their own equipment before their first day of class.
