BEWPGP Basic Eight Week Pet Grooming: 176 Clk hrs:

First Two Weeks: 44 Hours

  • Orientation

  • Proper Handling Techniques
  • Restraint Techniques
  • Demonstrations: Toy and Terrier Breeds
  • Special Care of the Young and Old
  • Therapeutic and Flea Bathing
  • Conditioning the Coat
  • Ear Maintenance
  • Nail Cutting and Grinding
  • Bathing and Drying Techniques
  • Study and Interpret Breed Standards of the Toy and Terrier Groups
  • Test

Second Two Weeks: 44 Hours

  • Dematting and Shed-Outs
  • Proper Use of Tools
  • Study and Interpret Breed Standards of the Sporting and Non-Sporting Groups
  • Clipper blade usage
  • Begin "Ruff Cuts"
  • Demonstrations: Sporting and Non-Sporting Breeds
  • Prioritizing Time
  • Shop Operations
  • Work Ethic
  • Test

Third Two Weeks: 44 Hours

  • Demonstrations: Hound and Working
  • Practice Clipper Techniques
  • Introduction to Thinning Shears
  • Study and Interpret Breed Standards of the Hound and Working Groups
  • Handling Cats
  • Cat Bathing and Drying
  • Test

Fourth Two Weeks: 44 Hours

  • Demonstration: Scissor Techniques
  • Mixed Breed Magic
  • Basic Finishing Techniques
  • Demonstration: Herding Breed
  • Study and Interpret Breed Standards of the Miscellaneous
  • Veterinarian Guest Speaker
  • Video
  • A field trip to a local Dog Show
  • Test

The 8 Week, 176 hour curriculum is a condensed version of the 16 Week program; however, it does not include:

  • Guest Speaker AKC Judge
  • Scissoring Techniques
  • Show Grooming and Dog Show Handling

Students have a one half hour lunch break.

Complete 12 Week Curriculum: 264 Hours

Complete 16 Week Curriculum: 352 Hours

Advanced Curriculum: 8 Weeks: 176 Hours
